SHIFT: CONVENTIONS. 8in x 5.5in printed on Classic Crest Canyon Brown 80lb and
Cougar Natural 80lb Text, 192 pages, 1000 copies. (2011)
Ranging from written and visual investigations, Shift:Conventions showcases the multidisciplinary research-based art and design practice that takes place at OCAD U. Entering its fifth edition, we continue to be interested in presenting new ideas—whether they take the form of design solutions, artistic interventions—or simple well-framed questions. The series focuses on a broad range of local and global issues. Most importantly we offer students an opportunity to explore topics they are passionate about. The design of the publication responded to the edition's theme of shifting conventions. Reflecting on the user experience—issues of navigation and materiality—we did not seek to change every convention. Rather our decisions seek to propose a reevaluation of each elemental role.
