MEMBER SANS v1.0 (2011)
Stable and unstable; comforting and stressful; solitary and cooperative; pluralities offer a more truthful representation of an idea such as home. The dichotomies are visually translated into the unlikely combination calligraphic strokes and rationalized terminals. The short x-height and the tall ascenders and descenders are based on the proportions of typefaces commonly used in 1950s America. With double-wide vowels that ensure the irregular gray value of the typesetted font, the glyphs are a "family of misfits". The irregularity is the norm.
Member Sans comes with three variations—a low, medium and high stance—with a uniform stroke width that allows for the fonts to be mixed as pleased. The name Member Sans is refers to the individual in part of a larger entity. A member is to a group as a glyph is to a typeface.
Member Sans has been featured in Creative Type III at the Palmerston Cafe and will be published in MANYSTUFF's Questions/Questions.
